Little feet
My feet have taken me many places
Many beaches and bodies of water
My feet have been to Vancouver, to Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Malmo, Vienna, Barcelona
My feet have taken me many places
I thank my feet for loving to walk
Being excited to carry me around
Being so thirsty for saltwater as the rest of me
Craving a dip
Where we can reset
When I cannot find the ocean, I fill a bowl with salt and warm water. And I sit with my feet in the bowl, in my bathroom on the toilet
Pretending
Summoning memories
Wreckage on the beach in Vancouver
Very blue water on the beach in Barcelona. The boats and the orange I bought at a shop on the way
Windy Copenhagen. A very stoic water. One that understood me
Even the big tank at the aquarium felt like a refuge. I was a little fish too
My feet have carried me many places in such a rush
Sometimes slowly
But often away
Today I struggle to tell my feet, “its okay to rest for a little while. We can go slow for a little while”
We can go slow for a long while too
I woke up with my feet in the sun today, nails plain and trimmed, calouses on the sides of my toes
They look different than they once did
They used to be so small
They had mud and slivers
I am grateful for these little feet for being so strong
They are still my little feet
